Premier League Darts, 2019 – The conclusion

With just a tad over a week until the Premier League Darts final at the O2 in London, we are still no clearer on who will take out the title than we were at the start of the season. Both Rob Cross and Michael van Gerwen, the champion from the last three years are already into the semi-finals for May the 23rd. But there are four other players vying for the two remaining semi-final spots. James Wade (currently 3rd on the Premier League table), Mensur Suljovic (4th), Daryl Gurney (5th) and Gerwyn Price (6th).

Now this is where it gets interesting. Wade plays top of the table Rob Cross in tomorrow’s last round and probably needs a win to get to that semi spot. Mensur needs to beat MVG to get there which I don’t see happening. Of course both Gurney and Price both need wins in their matches tomorrow to have any chance at a semi-finals berth.

My view, the two others to take the stage at the O2 semi-final’s will be James Wade and Daryl Gurney. Price may reach 18 points on a win over Wright, but his games +/- will be the difference in him not getting though.

The final’s will be between the two currently at the top of the table, Rob Cross and Michael van Gerwen. I see MVG taking out the final, but it won’t be a romp as Cross will give him a run for his money. MVG is and has been beaten on stage this year. It will prove to be one of the closest Premier League Dart competitions for many years.

Night 16 kicks off from the First Direct Arena, Leeds and will be live on Sky Sport 3 from 6am this Friday morning (NZ time). It’s not to be missed!
