Standard flights have a wider wingspan - they generate more drag, which slows the dart slightly and creates a higher arc. This suits players with a harder or faster throw. Slim flights are narrower, produce less drag, and give a flatter trajectory. Most tour pros use slim or small standard shapes. If your darts are wobbling in flight, try a standard shape first.
It does, especially once you have a consistent throw. The flight shape affects drag, trajectory, and how the dart sits at the board. The bigger the flight, the more correction it provides in flight - which is helpful for newer players. Experienced players often prefer smaller flights because they want tighter groupings and less resistance.
Flights wear out faster than most players expect. Any tearing, splitting, or creasing around the edges affects how the dart flies. High-volume players often replace flights every few weeks. If you're getting inconsistent groupings and your throw feels the same, check your flights first - it's the quickest fix.
Flight protectors are small rings that clip over the back of the flight to reinforce the slot where it attaches to the shaft. They reduce tearing from dart-on-dart contact - a Robin Hood will often split an unprotected flight. If you're throwing tight groupings, they're worth it. We sell them separately in our accessories range.
Yes - we stock standard, slim, kite, pear, and shape (No.6) flights across multiple brands. Kite flights are narrower than standard and provide a balance between the wide stability of standard and the flat trajectory of slim. Pear flights are short and wide - popular with players who want minimal interference when throwing at a crowded board.
In most cases, yes. The 2BA thread used for steel tip darts is a universal standard, so flights and stems from different brands will generally fit the same barrel. One-piece flight and shaft systems (like Condor Axe or L-Style) are the exception - these require compatible components from the same system.
Most beginners do well with 22g-24g steel tip darts. Heavier darts are more forgiving on release and tend to fly straighter for newer players. If you're unsure, 23g is a solid starting point - it's close to the weight most recreational players settle on long-term.
Brass darts are cheaper and thicker - fine for casual play. Tungsten darts are denser, so you get a slimmer barrel at the same weight, which means tighter groupings on the board. Most serious players switch to tungsten at some point. We stock both.

Switch point darts have removable, replaceable tips - so when a point gets worn or damaged, you swap it out instead of buying a whole new set. Red Dragon popularised the design. It's a smart option if you play regularly and want to protect your investment in a quality barrel.
The essentials are a case or wallet to protect your darts, spare flights, spare stems, and a set of replacement points. Beyond that, grip wax is useful if your hands sweat during play, and a sharpener or repointing tool is worth having if you play regularly. Most experienced players carry a small kit with all of these.
A dart repointing tool is the right way to do it - it grips the snapped point and pulls it out without damaging the barrel thread. Some players use alum powder dissolved in water to corrode the broken metal out, but this takes time and risks barrel damage. If you play regularly, a repointing tool is a worthwhile $10-15 investment. We stock a few options here.
It depends on how much you carry. A slim wallet holds one set of darts and a spare flight - fine for casual players. Tactical cases hold multiple dart sets, spare stems, flights, points, and tools. If you play in a team or travel to venues, a larger case is worth it. We have options from single-dart wallets up to full multi-compartment cases.
Grip wax is a dry, waxy substance applied to the fingers to improve grip on the dart barrel - useful if you find your hands getting slippery during long sessions. It's popular among competitive players. Apply a small amount before play. It won't suit everyone but it's cheap enough to try.
Blunt or burr-edged points cause more bounce-outs and can damage sisal boards over time. Check your points by running a fingertip lightly across the tip - it should feel sharp and smooth, not rough or flat. A dart sharpener can restore a blunt point; badly damaged or snapped points need replacing. We sell replacement points in packs.
Yes - particularly if you throw tight groupings. When a dart hits a flight that's already in the board, a protector reinforces the slot and prevents the tearing that usually results. They add a small amount of weight at the very back of the dart, which some players notice in their throw. Worth trying if damaged flights are a regular frustration.
They're the same thing - just different names for the same component. "Stems" is the term more common in NZ and the UK; "shafts" is used interchangeably. Both refer to the piece that connects your dart barrel to your flight.
Medium-length stems (around 42-48mm) are a good neutral starting point for most players. Short stems create a steeper angle and suit players with a front-weighted throw. Long stems flatten the arc and suit lighter barrels or players who prefer a more horizontal release. If your darts are going in at a steep angle, try shortening the stem.
Aluminium stems are more rigid and last longer - they won't snap from a bounce-out the way nylon can. The tradeoff is they can loosen in the barrel from vibration over time; using O-rings fixes that. For regular players, aluminium is usually worth the small extra cost. Nylon is fine for casual use or if you go through stems quickly.
Spinning stems have a rotating section where the flight attaches. When a second dart hits the flight of one already in the board, the flight spins out of the way instead of deflecting the incoming dart. This reduces bounce-outs and grouping interference. They're particularly useful for players who consistently throw tight clusters.
Most steel tip darts use a 2BA thread, which is a universal standard - so stems from any brand will fit most barrels. A small number of darts use a different thread (notably some Unicorn models use a 1/4 BSF fitting). Check the thread spec of your barrel if you're unsure. If you bought the darts from us, we can confirm compatibility.
Nylon stems can crack or shatter from a direct hit - check them regularly and replace if you see any stress marks. Aluminium stems can bend slightly from impact, which throws off flight alignment. Carbon and titanium stems are the most durable; some players use the same set for years. Keep a few spare sets in your case regardless of material.
Most beginners do well with darts in the 22-26g range. Lighter darts (under 22g) tend to suit players with faster throwing styles; heavier darts (26g+) work better if you prefer a slower, more deliberate release. The best way to find your weight is to try a few. Our darts are listed by weight in the product specs, and if you're not sure where to start, our starter kits are put together with beginners in mind.
The standard throw line (oche) is 2.37 metres from the face of the board. That's the official BDO and PDC distance. For casual play at home, you can adjust slightly if your space requires it, but sticking to regulation distance is a good habit if you ever play competitively. Height-wise, the bullseye sits 1.73 metres from the floor.
Steel tip darts are used on traditional sisal (bristle) dartboards and are the standard for competitive play. Soft tip darts have plastic tips designed for electronic dartboards — they won't damage the board segments and are popular in social leagues and pubs. If you're setting up a home board, most buyers go with a bristle board and steel tips. If you're playing on an electronic board (common in RSAs and some arcades), you'll want soft tip.

Consistency is the whole game. Focus on your stance first — keep your feet planted and your body square to the board. From there, it's about your grip (firm but not tight) and a smooth, straight follow-through. Most players see the biggest improvement just from slowing down their throw and not trying to muscle the dart. Practise the same throw every time rather than going for power. The main thing is the bristle quality. Good dartboards use tightly compressed sisal fibres — the dart pushes the fibres aside when it lands, and they spring back when you pull it out, which means less wear over time. Look for thin wire dividers (called spiders) to reduce bounce-outs. Brand matters too — Winmau and Unicorn are both popular choices at different price points. If you're setting up a board at home, don't forget a backboard to protect your wall.

A bristle sisal dartboard is the right call for most people. The sisal fibres are dense and self-healing - darts pull out cleanly and the board lasts for years with regular play. Avoid cheap compressed paper boards; they deteriorate fast and cause way more bounce-outs.
Staple-free boards use blade wires pushed into the sisal rather than metal staples around the bullseye and segments. This eliminates the most common cause of bounce-outs - a dart hitting a staple instead of the board face. All the boards we stock are either staple-free or use very thin blade wires for this reason.
The standard Blade 6 uses single-core sisal, while the Dual Core and Triple Core versions layer different densities of sisal to create a firmer bullseye and scoring segments. The Triple Core is the highest spec of the three - it's the board used in official PDC events. All three are good boards; the upgrade is mostly relevant if you're playing seriously and want the board to last longer.
The bullseye should sit at exactly 1.73 metres (5 feet 8 inches) from the floor. The throwing distance for steel tip darts is 2.37 metres from the face of the board. A quality sisal board with regular play (a few sessions per week) typically lasts 2-3 years before the scoring segments start to show significant wear. Rotating the board number ring every few months helps distribute wear more evenly across the board. Boards used daily in a pub or venue environment will wear faster.
